Port Hueneme is a smaller medium sized coastal city in Ventura County, California. It has around five neighborhoods and a wonderful beachy atmosphere. It is a nautical community with a rich history tied to the ocean. It is home to U.S. Navy Port Hueneme and the Point Mugu Naval facility and therefore there are many members of the armed forces living in the city. It has a warm summer Mediterranean climate and a council-manage form of city government which all combines to create a cozy community. Nearly 20% of adults over 25 in the city hold four-year degrees or more, which is about average for U. S. communities. It is a highly ethnically diverse community with a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Over 21% of residents of Port Hueneme are foreign born. English is the #1 language in the city, followed by Tagalog and Spanish.

The city spans 4.67 square miles, 4.45 of land and the remaining .22 square miles covered with water. It has a mixed workforce of predominantly white- and blue-collar workers and far less no-collar workers. It is a lower-middle income community compared to both state and federal economic standards. In 2017, the population was estimated at about 22,327 and the population density at about 5,000 people per square mile. In 2016, the estimated median household income in the city was $60,761 and the estimated per capita income was $24,541. Before the arrival of Europeans, the area was inhabited by the native Chumash tribes. Rodriguez Cabrillo was the first European explorer in the area, and he arrived in 1542. The Port Hueneme Wharf was constructed in 1871. The street grid for the community was laid out in 1888. And finally, in the spring of 1948 the community was incorporated. The 650-foot pier was constructed in 1956 and has been modified over the years. Today, it is a 1250-foot fishing pier. Since its legalization, the Cannabis industry is growing in the Port Hueneme area, including the cultivation, manufacturing, sales and distribution of the product. The Port of Hueneme is the only deep-water port between Los Angeles and San Francisco. The port is used by the Oxnard Harbor District and the Naval Base of Ventura county.

Public education in the city is provided by the schools of the Hueneme School District. The city is home to some sweet surf spots with year-round swells. The city hosts an annual beach festival in August featuring rides, games, vendor booths, food vendors, live exhibits and entertainments.
